Melek Huruf in Magelang (near Borobudur Temple) is a place to get away from the noise and experience a slower pace while being in the company of books, homecook food and tailored local tours.
We provide a public reading room, an info center about Magelang, and a small warung that serves home cooked food. You can also book to stay in our guesthouse and explore the area with our tailored private tours.

Melek Huruf is run by life partners Cristian and Nina. While the initiative is still in its early phase, they would need a heads-up before any visits. That way, guests can enjoy a full experience at the reading room, info center and eatery.
Yes, it is. All visitors can access the books in the reading room for free. If you are up for small bites or full meals, you can order from our adjacent eatery.
Yes, we do. The reading room is developed from our private collection of fiction and non-fiction books, comics, and magazines in bahasa Indonesia and English. Some of the publications available as part of our Info Center are also in English.
Due to limited copies at the reading room, all books are only available for onsite reading.
Our guesthouse features a 21sqm room and a terrace overlooking Menoreh Hill. The room could accommodate up to 2 people, has a queen-size bed fitted with 600TC sheets, and equipped with Wifi, hot water, and a working desk. The stay includes daily breakfast.

This is to ensure that we are being efficient with cleaning products and resources after every guest checkout.

We provide books, info, and statistics on Magelang Regency and beyond for those who are interested to learn the history of the legendary area, or would like to get to know the local culture.

We serve comfort food cooked in our kitchen using local ingredients, with the side of coffee and local snacks. Visitors can also bring home local chocolate bars made by our partner.
We try as best to cater to guests’ needs, based on seasonal market stocks. Do contact us in advance via WhatsApp (+62812 9323 5206) to request for dietary-specific dishes.
We welcome kids at all ages, with adult supervision at all times. We also have a kid's zone as well as a kids’ section in our reading room for you and family to enjoy.
We provide three all-inclusive tour packages: Adventure, Culinary, and Art & Culture. Each day tour (9-11 hours) can accommodate two people and include driver, meals, and tourist site tickets.

Our SUV can accommodate up to two adults and a child. Based on your child’s age, we will recalculate the tour budget. However, if you and your traveling buddy are on a trip with two children, we’re open to discuss bigger transportation options and adjusted prices for a small family tour.
The journal title translates to Stories from Java, a space where we share our honest reviews on local eateries, hotels, places of interest, and a platform to record meaningful conversations with people around us.
